Unified Information Day on "Cybercrime: Actual Threats"
A meeting with N.G. Bukishta, a lecturer in the Department of Operational-Investigative Activities at the Faculty of Criminal Police of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was held at «Geoinformation Systems» Unitary Enterprise as part of the Unified Information Day.
The speaker provided a detailed overview of the most common types of cyber fraud, including vishing (fraudulent phone calls made by individuals posing as bank representatives, security personnel, law enforcement, or company management); phishing (the use of fake websites and emails), quishing (fraud involving QR codes), and the hacking of social media accounts to send messages on behalf of the account owner. Particular attention was given to practical examples drawn from professional experience.
During the meeting, key methods for countering cyber-fraudsters were outlined, and a systematic guide was presented for handling common scenarios—such as receiving suspicious calls, links, messages, or requests for transferring of funds.
The primary preventive measures include the following:
- Hang up and call the bank or organization back using their official phone number, or verify the information directly with a director or other authorized official;
- If you receive messages on social media from relatives or friends asking for financial assistance, contact them directly;
- Never click on links sent by strangers, and do not install applications at their request;
- Always verify the authenticity of a website by checking the address bar before entering any data;
- Never, under any circumstances, share your bank account or card details with anyone;
- Do not click on links contained in messages about prizes, winnings, etc.
Employees of the company had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any points of interest.
